Spring Photo Shoot Tips

How to Prepare for Your Spring Photography Session in Southern Oregon.

Every spring we get lots of bookings for outdoor photography sessions in places like Lithia Park in Ashland, Medford parks, and even wedding venues right here in Jackson County. One of the most common questions we get from clients is "what should we wear for an outdoor photoshoot?" We've gone ahead and given you some tips to ensure your photography day is stress free and flawless for your spring photo session. Here we go!

1. Wear layers

Spring can be finicky (especially here in Oregon) in the sense that you can go from frigid to overheated in a matter of minutes. We suggest wearing layers -- tank top, tee shirt, cardigan, scarf, etc. That way each person can peel off, or add, a layer as they see fit and remain comfortable throughout the session.

2. Location is a big deal

You better believe we're going to take advantage of the fresh, warm air and all those bud popping up from the ground and in the trees. If you have any favorite locations, let us know. We also have a nice list of beautiful Southern Oregon locations on hand, ourselves.

3. Get inspired by colors of the season

Fresh pops of green, blue, pink and yellow are always a hit in the springtime. We recommend choosing a color theme, then slightly deviating from that with accessories to keep things interesting.

4. Speaking of accessories:

Wear them! Choose jewelry, scarves, or shoes that play into the spring theme. Just keep in mind that solid colors and subtle prints generally photograph best.

5. Time it right

Book a session too early and you may miss out on those spring buds. Book too late and you've already wandered into summer territory. If you're not really sure when the best time for your spring photography session is, give us a call! We've had a lot of experience in this area over the years!

6. Consider props

Spring offers some beautiful backdrops where props blend in perfectly. For example, a blanket is lovely on the fresh, green grass and can also protect your clothing if the ground is damp during sitting poses.

7. Really think about your footwear

As we briefly mentioned in the last tip, spring can often mean a soggy ground, so flip-flops or heels are not the best choice. Instead, wear something that's comfortable and spring appropriate, like loafers, flats or boots.
